Baggage From BaghDAD is the journey of a family’s struggle to immigrate to a new land and transcend their harrowing past, so that love and the importance of family may triumph. It’s not just a Jewish tale but a narrative that anyone can relate to with having to emigrate to another country, being forced to evacuate during wartime, suffering bullying, and the ramifications of having to adapt to a foreign culture that’s not so welcoming. This play finds humor and hope, even in the darkest of times—it has a universal message of hope and resilience.

New York Mills, MN–The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is pleased to present the internationally-acclaimed solo show “The Pink Hulk: One Woman’s Journey to Find the Superhero Within,” written and performed by three-time cancer survivor and patient advocate Valerie David. There will be one performance on Friday, June 2 at 6:00 PM at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, 24 N Main Ave, New York Mills, MN 56567.  The show is approximately 1 hour with no intermission, plus a 30-minute talkback/Q&A. Synopsis and About The Pink Hulk: Now battling breast cancer after fighting off lymphoma, Valerie does something most people facing cancer in their life probably wouldn’t think of doing. With a fear that she might lose “the girls”, she takes them out for one last hurrah. And does Valerie succeed? Is there a “happy” ending? Come see the show to find out! This adventurous solo show follows Valerie’s journey to seek her own “hulk-like” strength to find her superhero within to become a 3-time cancer survivor. Valerie, who is based in New York City, “hulked out” on cancer; after her first two bouts with cancer—Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1999 and then breast cancer in 2014/2015. Then in September 2018, Valerie was re-diagnosed with breast cancer—this time Stage IV metastatic with bone mets. As of April 2019, she has no evidence of disease.
